Fujichrome RMS (120, 100/1000 iso) User-Review

Are you a big fan of that crazy color shift you get from dunking FujiChrome films in C-41 juice? I am, and when I got my hands on 3 rolls of this rare emulsion, I could not resist trying a little x-pro action!

FujiChrome MS 100/1000 Professional [RMS] as it is coded on the wrapper, is a slide film that was made for push processing. You can shoot it as 100 ISO, or any speed up to 1000 ISO and then push process it. Pushing is what it was made to do. This gave many photographers some flexibility to capture images in many lighting conditions if they had some of this film ready to rock.

This rare film is no longer made, but if you keep your eyes open, sometimes you can score some expired rolls. This particular roll was expired in 2002, but it was kept cold stored and came from a pro photographer’s stash— so I was pretty confident I could get something interesting with this stuff. I loaded up my trusty Mu-Dan MD-1 TLR with this 120 film and went out to make some moody color shift magic.

Rather than push this stuff, I wanted to see what it would do with some crazy cross processing. So, I decided to shoot this as if it were 100 ISO, and I set my aperture and shutter speed accordingly. And the result is one of my favorites so far! I got the typical Fuji green-blue shift, but with a heavy emphasis on green, depending on the lighting conditions. And in some of the photos, the reds and oranges just pop out, in some cases looking like they are glowing under a UV light! The film performed very well for being so far out of date.

So what do you think, should I x-pro the other two rolls?

I think so!

Damn, I snoozed and lost on getting my review for this film in. You gotta xpro all of them. This film is too rare and sweet not to. You got some really great shots and put up a nice review.

Thanks gang. It seems like there is some 35mm stock of this stuff going around too ;)
