Olympiapark, Munich

Just on the other side of the Olympic Village you’ll find the “Olympia park” a very inspiring place to take pictures.

The Olympics 1972 were a great event in Munich, but not only for the sport activities (see other location about the Olympic Village in Munich). At the entrance of the park is a memorial dedicated to the Israeli victims of this tragedy.
But the sport took the main place in the city landscape and a lot of sport installations and infrastructures are still there, used by the people of Munich. Just next to the Olympic village, on the other side of the highway (you just have to cross the bridge…), you’ll find the Olympiapark, with his worldly famous “Olympiastadion” (for athletics and collective sports) and the “Olympia Schwimmhalle” (for water sports).

There is also the Olympia lake and other sport installations. The whole architecture of the place was thought in a futuristic 70’s style, and it is still impressive today with this huge white “plastic-like” cover in very fluid forms. The main place is the “Coubertin Platz” and when staying there, you can really imaging how during the Olympics the place was crowded and waiting for great achievements in athletics or swimming, asking about new world records and looking at the new sports legends of the time…..

But it’s the place is not only about sport, but also about nature: go along the lake, more on the green side of the park, very relaxing and with great point of views. There is on the opposite side of the lake a little hill from which you have a fantastic view over the whole parc and even on the main part of the city of Munich. A cool place to visit, and where you can feel the intensity of the Olympic history! :) And it’s for me, every time I go there, a very inspiring place, whatever camera I take.

Olympia Park, U-bahn U3, stop at Olympiazentrum (and then follow the footway)
