What are the advantages and disadvantages of shooting in a studio?
Whether you like to shoot products, portraits or editorial work, a studio environment can have its pros and cons.
A studio can unlock your creativity, allowing you to express your ideas to the fullest. But it also requires experience and knowledge in lighting techniques, equipment, and set design. If you rent or build a space, it can be expensive and challenging.
The freedom to create whatever your imagination has envisioned comes with responsibilities as well. You must be detailed oriented towards all aspects of the photoshoot, since the outcome depends on you as the photographer.
Advantages:
- Full control of lighting
- Creative freedom
- Ability to build a complete set
- A space to collaborate with other industry professionals
Disadvantage:
- Expensive gear
- Possibly a big team to coordinate
- More technical skills are required to master studio light
- You are responsible for the success of the shoot and for anything you rent
