Joseph Petzval, The Next Generation
We are thrilled to unveil the evolution of the legendary Petzval Art Lens – introducing the Joseph Petzval Focus-coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens Series, expertly handcrafted to inspire a new era of artistic photography and videography with Sony E, Canon RF & Nikon Z cameras. Each lens delivers a strikingly sharp center with softly blooming edges, enhanced by the signature painterly swirly bokeh Petzval lenses are known for. With the dedicated bokeh control ring, the intensity of the swirl can be adjusted across seven levels, adding depth, character and emotion to every shot. Users can detune the look of every image, making these lenses an essential tool for bold, expressive visuals.
Offering unparalleled artistic versatility for advanced videography and photography, these new lenses have a unique feature: focus-coupled bokeh control. This enables complete creative control over tuning the image with beautiful swirly bokeh effects, without any focus shift that may disrupt a shot. Available now in a full set of five focal lengths: 27 mm, 35 mm, 55 mm, 80.5 mm and 135 mm.
Joseph Petzval 35 F/2.0 Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens
This lens brings the signature Petzval look to a completely new focal length and wider perspective, with a 0.4 m closest focusing distance.
Joseph Petzval 55 F/1.7 Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens
Wide enough to capture the context, close enough to frame emotion, it’s the perfect everyday lens for photographers and filmmakers who want expressive visuals with a versatile lens.
Joseph Petzval 80.5 F/1.9 Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens
This focal length is a favorite for portraits, close-up storytelling and capturing emotion. Whether working with stills or motion, this lens turns every frame into an expressive work of art.
Joseph Petzval 27 F/1.7 Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens
Expect extreme subject isolation with close focusing to zero-in on your subject while the strong, swirly bokeh blurs away distractions, keeping your focus exactly where you want it.
Joseph Petzval 135 F/2.5 Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens
With a large sharp area that gradually softens into a subtle swirl towards the edges and soft, glowing highlights, its look is reminiscent of classic Hollywood glamour.

The Petzval Look
In an era of digital perfection and ‘clean’ imagery, photographers and videographers are craving something different, a new look for their photo and video projects. The ‘Petzval look’ has become increasingly popular for its visual effects that add depth and character to any scene, particularly with the signature swirly bokeh. What was once considered an imperfection can be the key to a standout shot. The Petzval look has been featured by many acclaimed filmmakers in productions like Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos, 2023; Blonde, Andrew Dominik, 2022; Cherry, Joe and Anthony Russo, 2021; and The Northman, Robert Eggers, 2022.
Joseph Petzval Videography
We have built the new Petzval lens series based on calculations from Joseph Petzval’s original optical design, bringing the coveted Petzval look to five focal lengths, directly compatible with your full-frame mirrorless mounts. With enhanced features for video production including uniform gear positioning and follow focus compatibility, they will fit seamlessly into any production workflow.
