Chill Out Moment: Sensory Park at Toa Payoh, Singapore

See, touch, hear, feel, and taste – that’s what Singapore’s first sensory park promises the visitor. And this has become one of my favorite places to go to when I just need some ‘me’ time.

Opened to the public in 2009, the sensory park in Toa Payoh is the first of its kind in Singapore.

Developed at a cost of S$3.5 million, this 1.1 ha park was designed by Singapore-based architectural firm Surbana International together with Japanese landscape architect Yoshisuke Miyake, who pioneered the concept in Japan.

The idea behind the Sensory Park is simple – stimulate one’s five senses through specific features.

With plenty of benches located throughout this little park, you can just enjoy a chat with a friend, neighbor or loved one.

Being located right within a residential area, the park has been designed to be family oriented. There is a playground for the kids and an exercise area for all.

While it is quiet in the day as there is little shelter from Mother Nature, it is most alive in the mornings and evenings.

But here’s what I really like about the place. It’s a breath of fresh air when you’re living in high-rise apartments.
