Kissaway Trail Shoots with the La Sardina
7Our latest LomoAmigos come from Odense and Copenhagen, Denmark. Say hello to Kissaway Trail, a three-piece band that impressed the world with large string arrangements, epic harmonies and beautiful melodies since releasing its self-titled debut album in 2007. Armed with a La Sardina camera, the trio went analog and recorded memories through intimate lomographs.
The band talks about future plans and upcoming adventures in this interview.

Please introduce yourself to the readers of Lomography Magazine.
We are a noise pop/alternative rock band from Denmark that has been around since 2006, still making music for dreamers.
Describe the La Sardina camera in five words.
Nostalgic, awesome, old school, learning by doing, back to the future.
If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).
1. Interpol – The New 2. Band of Horses – Detlef Schrempf 3. Blink 182 – I Miss You
What elements of your music are analog and what qualities do these elements add that digital can’t?
We have an old analog Juno-106 Roland synthesizer and we’re often using a Roland – Space Echo on different kind of things. It gives the music a human touch and brings warmth into the music that’s hard to find if everything was created with midi directly in a program.
What is it like getting back to analog photograph? What is it about film photography that you like the most?
It was really fun. We had to learn how to operate an analog camera again. Haven’t used a camera like this since Roskilde Festival in the late 90s. It was a disposable camera. The best thing was looking forward to seeing how the pictures turned out.
You told us some of these photos were made in an apartment in Copenhagen where you made your very first unplugged show. But actually these photos look like they were shot all over! Where did you go? What did you do?
Yeah, some of the the pictures were shot in this small apartment. Some of them were taken working on some new songs in a studio outside Copenhagen. As you can see, we had a small party doing the recordings. Some were taken in Thomas’s apartment , in his studio, our rehearsal space, the nature around Odense, when looking for great new music in our local record pusher store, etc. The pictures with the piano and tape machine is from Soren’s home studio as well as the one where he is holding his little daughter Lily. The rest were shot all over!
Thank you for bringing La Sardina into your home studio. The intimacy of these photos is really amazing and we’re sincerely grateful. Tell us a bit about the recording process we see in these photos.
Thank you so much! You’re welcome. We had a lot of fun using the camera! There are lot of different situations going on here. In Thomas’s studio in Copenhagen we were playing with some new demos and rehearsed for the apartment show as well. Soren is trying out his new vintage tape machine by recording some piano in his home studio. The rest is from a weekend outside Copenhagen working on new songs.
What’s next for Kissaway Trail?
We’re are currently working on a lot of different material. Wherever the new songs are going to take us is where we’re gonna be!
Please share some advice to future La Sardina shooters.
Don’t do it! You’ll get caught forever on photos that is out of your control. Ha ha! Just kidding! Every one should try it, don’t think just shoot.
